You would also need an adapter like this: Lindy Headphone-PC adapter cable (stereo, headset adapter)

Correction: Apple 4x contact, normal 3x contact

As shown in the manual, there are 2 individual connections. 1x optical/electrical OUT and 1x microphone IN.
Since these are separate connections, they do not work with the Apple headphones.
Secondly, the Apple headphones have a special 3-contact jack connector that does not work with the normal 2-contact jacks.
