Before I pack the scanner away again.... Is there anyone here who also gets the error code 2,156,33 under Windows 10, no matter what you do? I've already reinstalled software, changed USB ports and even run a Windoof PC clean over the system. Doesn't go away. :(

Found this, at digital as an answer to the same problem

I found the Canon Lide 300 for Linux here-> sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.... under Manufacturer (Ordered by Manufacturer) with the entry "Complete All resolutions supported (up to 2400DPI)". Downloaded the driver from the manufacturer Canon and installed the software "simple-scan" via terminal with the command: sudo apt install sane xsane libsane. The whole thing went faster than this entry.

I have the same problem, also under Win10. Depending on the scanning software used (Adobe Acrobat, Windows Fax and Scan, PDF24 or Kofax Power PDF sometimes with error code 5, 156, 69 and sometimes with 2, 156, 50. Nothing has helped me so far either.

Yes, I have exactly the same error message. Have you been able to achieve anything? Did LuciusCaprez's answer help you?
