Roughly one year ago, Swiss online retailer Galaxus ventured into Bella Italia To mark this first anniversary, let’s take a closer look at what customers in Italy have been ordering. The data reveals that toys and IT products have proven to be particularly popular with Italian customers. Together they account for almost half of all orders.

The numero uno

The list of best-selling products at Galaxus in Italy is spearheaded by the unrivalled champion of our toys category – Lego. To date, the colourful bricks account for almost 40 per cent of all toys sold on galaxus.it. Seven of the ten best-selling sets are from the Lego Botanical series, with the Bouquet of Roses being the absolute top seller.

If it’s not Lego bricks, toy figurines and Playmobil often end up in Italians’ virtual shopping carts. However, in second place of best-selling products in 2023 are printer cartridges. Smartphone cases are also represented in Italy’s top 5.

Galaxus in Italy keeps on growing

In the first year after its launch, Galaxus in Italy recorded steady growth. As early as spring 2023, the online retailer recorded growth of 27% between the first and second quarters. At the end of the year, 196 per cent more orders were placed compared to the previous months thanks to Black Friday and Christmas .

Who’s placing orders on galaxus.it?

This increase in orders is generated by a customer base made up of two-thirds male and one third female customers. Since the launch one year ago, this gender gap has gradually been closing, with women catching up by a few percentage points each quarter. Incidentally, customers who place the most orders are between 35 and 54 years of age. Younger people are less likely to shop at Galaxus.
