Pia’s Picks: these lamps look like they’re made as one piece
by Pia Seidel
If you want pleasant, natural-looking lighting, light-coloured, fabric lampshades are just what you need. They immediately make the room warmer. And combined with wood or stone, they’re even more interesting.
Lamps with a fabric shade and a stone base offer a fascinating mix of materials. The soft, warm shade brings cosiness to the atmosphere of the room, while the stone base adds a cool, elegant accent.
You can achieve a similarly interesting contrast with a table lamp that has a wooden base. Wood on its own radiates warmth, but the fabric shade makes it twice as inviting. Plus, it blends in perfectly with modern, rustic interiors.
In my Pia’s Picks series, I regularly showcase my favourite finds – things I might not need, but definitely want.

Show allThere’s just something about fabric lampshades. Serving as a sort of filter, they keep light looking soft and evenly distribute it around the room. Plus, the fabric just feels good. Depending on the material, it might have a pretty texture. Coarse linen, for example, adds a bit of rustic charm to a room. Fabric shades look even more interesting when combined with a wooden or stone base. The contrast between the smooth surfaces and the fabric’s irregular fibres really emphasises this natural look.
