Roccat Sense Aimo: the runway mouse mat doesn’t convince me

These days it seems everything has to have RGB LEDs – even mouse mats. However, the runway lighting on Roccat’s Sense Aimo doesn’t help my aim, even interfering with my gaming.
Slippery on both sides
The Sense Aimo performs its actual function as a mouse mat quite well. In any case, the mouse moves around easily in all directions. The mouse’s sensor also responds precisely to my inputs.
While a mouse mat should provide smooth movements at the top, it should adhere well at the bottom. However, the anti-slip layer cannot fulfil this task as desired due to the LED snake. The snake is slightly thicker than the mat and therefore rests on the desk. As a result, there’s a sliding, rather than adhering edge all around. The mouse mat keeps slipping out of place for me.
The control unit with its micro USB port enhances this effect. It’s made of plastic and wrapped around the mat. Even the slightest touch, and the mat will be slipping and sliding. This will happen quite often with a wired mouse. In addition, I kept bumping into this unit with the mouse cable and lost my concentration while playing.
On to threading: the stitching for the LED snake is part of my biggest gripe. When resting my forearm on the mat and controlling a mouse, the thread connecting the LED snake to the mat uncomfortably chafes my skin. I expect more comfort from a mouse mat.
After all, RGB fans should get their money’s worth: the LED snake creates a more or less uniform, beautiful effect. It glows a bit stronger around the rounded corners. This is logical, however, as the snake’s skin is thinner there due to the bend, allowing light to shine through more strongly.
You can’t (only) blame the incessant blinking
The Sense Aimo isn’t for me. Its control unit is poorly placed and the mouse pad doesn’t stick well enough to my desk. In addition, the seam surrounding the LED snake chafes my forearm.
If that doesn’t bother you and you really want a mouse mat with runway lighting, the Sense Aimo allows for precise and accurate mouse control. Let’s just hope that the mat itself doesn’t always slide along.
