The thermistor relay is used as a protection relay for motors against thermal overload (excessive heating). This heating can occur due to mechanical overload on the shaft or when operating the motor with inadmissible voltages. A thermistor (PTC) is used as a sensor, which is placed as close as possible to the part of the motor that heats up the most during overload (e.g., integrated into the motor winding). The device can also be used with motors that have an integrated thermal switch.
