Sony MDR-100ABN h.ear on Wireless NC
ANC, 20 h
I have never been so happy with new headphones. For me, the following points are important:
- Noice cancelling
- Long battery life
- Good wearing comfort even when worn for a long time
- Blutooth
- Very good sound quality
I ride the train for about 1.5 hours a day. Thanks to noise cancelling, ambient noise is suppressed and this works impressively well, if not frighteningly so. Even when people around me are chatting, I hear almost nothing.
A colleague at work has Beats headphones in the same price segment and we compared them intensively. In terms of sound quality, the Beats never come close to the SONY.
I am also positively surprised by the battery life. I listen to music for about 1-2 hours a day. The headphones are charged once a week. The headphones are very comfortable but not exactly small. There are more compact models, but nothing comes from nothing :-). No problem for me.
I can therefore give them a clear recommendation to buy.

RRP 349 CHF, regular price at digitec around 249 CHF, bought in the headphone sale for an incredible 149 CHF. I didn't actually want to buy NC headphones at the moment, but I knew the Sony from various tests and had already read there that they were supposed to be very good. At that price, I couldn't resist. If I had been free to choose, I would have bought them in lime yellow, but they are also nice in black. And above all, it's incredibly comfortable. I have only tested the NC function on the extractor bonnet so far, and it works great there. I'm already looking forward to the next flight or train journey. Finally, no more tangled cables and no more oppressive InEars!
After a few weeks of use, numerous children play football on the concrete floor in front of our flat or my study at home. The bouncing of the balls over hours can get on your nerves. So far, I had helped myself with InEars, although I always had to put on music, even if not too loud. Normally, it is said that NC headphones can only filter out uniform noises, such as "buzzing and humming". But the MDR-100ABN manages to stop me hearing the balls! I don't know how they did it at Sony. The passive damping probably does its part, because the shells are already tight by design. But after switching on the earpieces and the NC function, the ball noise has completely disappeared. WITHOUT MUSIC INTERFERENCE!!.. At last I can concentrate on my work again - THANK YOU!!! I would never have expected that. In this respect, a purchase recommendation from me!
NOTE 2: In the meantime, I've had a few flights with the headphones in my luggage. Until then I always thought I didn't need such a thing... but the difference is really amazing. With the headphones on and the NC activated, I was even able to sleep a little on board for the first time. I've never been able to do that before!

I've been looking for NC headphones that don't break my budget for a long time and I've certainly found the right ones with the Sony MDR-100ABN.
About the sound: The sound is first class! Even the Bose QC35 can't compete with them in my opinion. The sound is very clear and, above all, bass-intensive, which is not the norm with NC headphones. The headphones are particularly suitable for music in the direction of EDM/hip hop etc. but even classical music sounds very clear and balanced, provided the noise cancelling is also switched on. If this is not the case, high tones are no longer as clear and the sound is slightly muffled.
Noise cancelling: The noise cancelling is not quite as effective as Bose's, but is perfectly adequate for everyday office use, public transport or air travel. Consistent noises such as the hissing of the ventilation are completely suppressed. Voices are only heard when people are nearby and only when you concentrate on them. As long as you listen to music, you generally hear almost nothing :) The only point of criticism is the wind: as soon as it gets windier, the NC has slight problems and typical wind noises occur.
Bluetooth & battery: The Bluetooth offers a stable and strong connection. One review said you could walk through the house with it, which might be possible in US wooden houses, but not with Swiss 30cm concrete walls. The battery lasts a very long time. Even heavy users have to plug it in maybe once a week. My battery has never been empty.
Workmanship and wearing comfort: The workmanship is first-class and the material is very stable. Scratches are possible but hardly worth mentioning. They are very comfortable to wear and the sweating on the ears is also kept within limits.
Even as a gaming headset, the headphones are very suitable and with the included cable, you can use them almost anywhere :)
Absolutely top headphones! Buy recommendation!

Good price-performance ratio.
I bought the headphones in a sale for 149. For comparison, I have the beats by dr.dre Solo2 Wireless.
The Sony convinces with good noise-cancelling and outstanding wearing comfort. It is also absolutely top in Bluetooth transmission. There are noticeably fewer delays in wireless playback compared to the Solo2.
Both are similarly strong in terms of sound quality. However, I like the beats better. Particularly at low volume and with the NC, you feel a slightly unpleasant white noise with the Sony. I find it a bit disappointing that you should have the headphones switched on even in wired mode - the sound quality sinks to the bottom of the barrel.
With the NC switched on, the bass strength is somewhat reduced, but voices are much clearer and more pleasant.
There is nothing to complain about in terms of battery life. And it is recharged in no time via USB.
The design is of course a matter of taste, but in my opinion too much cheap plastic has been used. It also seems a bit big and heavy. The workmanship has been a little sparse. The volume and especially the "forward/back & pause/play" button did not leave a good impression on me.
The great strength of these headphones is their wearing comfort. Even over hours, on train journeys for example, there are no unpleasant pressure points. This also applies to people who wear glasses!

I bought this product because I really wanted better isolated headphones for the workplace. I wasn't actively looking for noise cancelling (NC), but at this good price I'll gladly take it.
My expectations weren't huge, because you don't have to expect a sound miracle at this price. But I was more than pleasantly surprised: the sound of these headphones is excellent and even without NC you can only hear the outside world in a muffled way. With NC, it's like being in a bubble, you can hardly hear anything, except when unusual and rather high-pitched noises are heard (e.g. ringing of the telephone).
The workmanship of the headphones is good in my opinion, but too much plastic for my taste, but I can live with that. The headphones have very practical controls for songs (skip, play & pause) or for answering the phone when connected to the mobile phone. The wearing comfort is okay, but after a while the pads press a bit too tightly against my ears. I have an average-sized head and the weight is easy to bear for a long time (maybe an advantage of all the plastic).
In general, I never had any connection problems via Bluetooth. Also great is the battery life, even the first charge lasted me a good week with about 5 hours of use per day (often without NC). If the battery runs out, you can also use the headphones via cable, although they don't sound too great here, but that's only for an "emergency". You can also switch on the headphones when they are connected to the cable, in which case they sound just as good as when they are operated via Bluetooth.
All in all, these are headphones that make me completely satisfied.
