The Function
The lens hood (also known as a flare hood or sunshade) reduces side light entering the sensor. This minimizes lens flares, which enhances image quality. The images appear less washed out and have better contrast when using the lens hood. Additionally, the lens hood provides some protection for the front lens against rain and light impacts or touches (fingerprints). For space-saving transport, we recommend mounting the lens hood "backwards" onto the lens.
