At the moment, my PC sends the data to the router via wifi and the router sends it on to Steam link via wifi. Does it increase the performance if Steam Link is connected to the router via lan cable?

Short answer: Generally yes

The only advantage of WLAN (unfortunately only minimally evolved in the last decade) is that you don't have a tangle of cables in the home network and can therefore be more mobile.

In terms of commissioning, speed, susceptibility to errors, security, reliability and even the health aspect - if one is to believe him - a connection via LAN is in a better light.
