Can anyone compare it with, for example, a Canon MF744CX or Brother L8690CDW? Especially regarding the quality of scans via the batch feeder, as we sometimes digitise a lot of pages at school. HP's scanner is not supposed to be the best, because it only has 300 dpi and the feeder is often crooked? Can anyone confirm this? Canon's touchscreen isn't great and we weren't very happy with the print quality of our older Brother (sometimes small dots or other traces on the paper, not very rich toner application, rather slow).
I can't compare them because I don't know the two devices. But yes, scanning with the HP via the automatic feeder is often crooked, I can confirm that. What I like about the HP is that when the toner runs out, a warning message appears, but printing is not made impossible. The user decides when the printout looks too faded and the toner needs to be replaced. (My OKI printer simply locked up - even if there was still toner left).
