Can I simply connect the monitor to my laptop without first saying that I don't want Netflix and amazon? Switch on the monitor and connect the laptop, wait until the connection is established and then get started?

Yes, but there's a main menu and the sound can't be adjusted using the Mac's buttons. The picture is excellent but it can be a bit more cumbersome to use than an Apple screen.

I do it directly with a Mac Book Pro, yes
