Can I use the GSM dual band to make calls abroad, e.g. in the USA?
No, this mobile phone does not support any of the frequency bands used in the USA. Buy one with 3G or 4G, because in Switzerland 2G will be switched off in 2 years anyway, then the thing will be of no use to you here either.
It depends. Especially not in the USA or in many American countries. The frequencies of this mobile phone are those that are/were generally used in Europe, Africa and Asia. To be noted with GSM mobile phones: GSM is on the decline. In most European countries it should stay for long enough, in some cases longer than 3G, but elsewhere providers have already started to switch off their GSM networks. Japan and South Korea have had no GSM for five years, certain providers in the USA and Australia have only recently switched them off, and Swisscom will be among the first in Europe at the end of 2020.
If you still want to make calls with Swisscom in Switzerland, a GSM (=2G) mobile phone will no longer suffice, but you will need one with 3G and/or 4G.
So if frequent stays abroad are planned, it would be necessary to check what plans the network operators there have.
