Can it be used as an auxiliary monitor for a desktop PC? I can't find a way to connect it to my rx 580 as it doesn't have type C. And the only adapter I have doesn't work.

The display must be connected to a device that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode) and USB Power Delivery (USB PD), so you cannot just connect it to a graphics card even with a bi-directional DP/USB-C cable as the display will not be powered through this. Unfortunately, I have no solution to offer you, I'm really sorry.
