Can this camera also be used without a cartridge? So without printing a snapshot directly, but only keep the digital version of the photo?

Once you have taken a photo, you can decide for yourself if and when you want to print the image.
If the cartridge is empty, you can still take photos.

Yes, this works as some users have already written. However, you can only upload photos to the app via the instax mini evo app that have also been printed. Very daft. Except save to SD card and then transfer the SD card to the PC.

Yes you can, the camera works like a normal digital camera. However, it is very much designed to print the photos afterwards in this small Polaroid format. This means that the image quality of the digital pictures is so-so. So if you just want to take photos and keep them digitally, I would recommend a different digital camera.

i don't know if it works without a cartridge, never tried it... but yes if the cartridge is empty or you don't want to print an image then you have the option to print whatever images you want later. one thing to note: the internal memory is super small. so either you keep shovelling pictures over to your mobile via the app or (what i did) buy an extra memory card. especially useful for holidays with children who don't yet have their own mobile but take lots of photos with the evo 😄

Yes, you can take pictures, look through them on the screen afterwards and print the ones you like.
