Can this monitor be connected to a MacBook Air via Thunderbolt?

It can be connected via Thunderbolt, but I have only done it with a Windows laptop. Since Thunderbolt is a specification, you can only assume with a high degree of certainty that it will also work with a MacBook, otherwise it would be a reason for return. The monitor even has a KVM switch, which means that connected USB devices are passed through to the active device whose screen is being displayed. The laptop is also supplied with sufficient power, giving you a fully-fledged Thunderbolt docking station. The only drawback: I haven't yet managed to switch the monitor signal using a keyboard shortcut, which every KVM switch should actually offer...
