Do I understand correctly that the docking station is connected to the laptop via a USB-C cable and therefore one USB-C port is actually already occupied?

On the laptop, the / one USB-C port is occupied by the cable that comes from the docking station. At the docking station, a cable goes out of the housing, i.e. directly from the "inside" and not with a cable that has to be plugged in on both sides... I hope I have explained it clearly...
