Yes, that works quite well.
The only problem, but again not because it turned out to be a much better solution, is that most games only allow 28 buttons. But you have 53 input options per controller. But you can easily solve this with the JoyToKey programme. Makes sense especially with Omsi2 where you have many different bus types, then you can save an individual programming.

I haven't tried it with another game, but it should work. However, you'll have to assign the desired keys manually in the game.
