NO backlight. I know that the same model sold by a competitor has backlighting. Linux is possible but I've never tried it.

I can't tell you whether it's Linux or not, except that it definitely does NOT have a keyboard light, although it was initially described as such. For me, this was also a bad purchase, which I complained about and has now been corrected. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it...
