Passive or fan, I don't know, but I didn't notice any annoying fan noise even when using it for long periods of time. Super device, highly recommended, would buy it again.

There are three ventilation slots on the left-hand side. No matter how hard I work, the fan always emits warm air there. However, I haven't noticed any fan noise so far. I work intensively with Office programmes, surf a lot, play an Android game via Google Play Games (beta), watch TV via the Sunrise app or the browser, Netflix.
The device has a high-quality finish and I always use the highest resolution. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

The notebook has a fan, but it is normally very quiet. I have not yet tried it under full load (e.g. video encoding) as I do this on the PC with graphics card.
