The cable is capable of 4k/60Hz, and the MacBook 2016 should be able to drive at least one 5k / 2 4K display depending on the model (13" with / without touchbar or 15" have different graphics cards). Connected via cable, however, this is not normally mirrored by the MacBook but controlled as an additional display (or as the only one when the MacBook is closed, in which case it needs a power supply so that it does not go into sleep mode when closed and, of course, an external mouse/keyboard).
