Hello, I own this product and so far it works perfectly. At the moment I haven't connected a power cable to it and it doesn't really get warm. Now I am looking for a suitable usb c power supply to charge my Macbook directly via the dock. Does it make sense to use a power supply with a low wattage to save the battery of my MacBook on the one hand and to prevent the dock from getting too hot on the other, or am I mistaken? Kind regards, Valentin
Hoi - I use a Mac on two different docks - both power supplies on the docks can deliver 100W (according to paper...) and both docks get handwarm to warm (one an iTec, one a Hyperdrive). If I didn't connect a power supply unit, the attached devices (USB/Thunderbolt drives, sound card, sticks, card reader, webcam) wouldn't really work anymore because they don't have enough juice. So it also depends on the devices you connect. Warm is subjective... Many docks get warm, too hot, what does that mean ;)?
If you have a power supply from a Mac with USB-C (2020 M1?) then try it on the dock.
I "save" my battery (i.e. I hope I make it last longer) by never using the battery down to 10% and starting to charge at 40% and never charging above 80-90% ... at least that's what an apple technician once recommended to me...
