Yes, you can switch the preamplifier on and off. I use an additional preamplifier myself.

Correct, the Denon DP-300F has a phono preamplifier that can be switched on and off.
The switch is somewhat hidden under the turntable and is in the ON position when delivered. I myself operate a DP-300F on the phono input of an NAD amplifier and have therefore switched it to OFF.
