Hi, can I plug my active speakers directly into one of the RCA sockets to get sound output or do I have to use one of the headphone sockets?

You can use the line out (PRE/LO) behind the device and connect active speakers, it's made exactly for that.

The cinch outputs are line outputs designed for connection to a preamplifier or active loudspeakers.
