Hi... can you simply connect this speaker to your smartphone via Bluetooth like any other Bluetooth speaker, or do you also need the Sonos app for this? Thank you.

No, you cannot connect the Sonos Era 100 via Bluetooth straight out of the box.
You have to set it up once via the Sonos app and connect it to the WLAN.
Only then can you pair it with your smartphone as normal, just like a Bluetooth speaker, and then it will work without the app.
