I don't know if I don't understand your question...
Basically, it's not the external device (mobile phone, laptop or whatever) that has to recognise the mic, but the receiver (the part with the display). If the level goes out there, then it has a connection.
Now it's a matter of connecting the output of the receiver to the external device. There are (unfortunately) different connectors that look almost the same. For iPhone a special one.
Your laptop - my guess - has no mic input, only a headphone output. (There are laptops that have a combined input) Then you have to buy 2 small parts. Everything is explained at the end of this video. And there you will also find the link to these parts.
