I am thinking about getting a Rode microphone and a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones. I know that I can connect the microphone via an audio interface. But now I don't know whether I can also connect the headphones to the PC via the interface or whether I still need a headphone amplifier? Thanks in advance :)

If you want to hear yourself live on the headphones through the microphone (monitoring), a closed headphone is appropriate. With the DT990Pro, not only do you risk feedback, but the microphone will also pick up sound from the headphones. When using a microphone and headphones, closed headphones are always preferable.

Connecting them is not a problem as long as there is a jack headphone output and the sound card is active. The sound chip itself is quite irrelevant. Much more important are the microphone preamplifier and the amplifier for the headphone output.

I have the 250Ohm DT990 and they run very well over the sound chip from the mainboard, but of course you get more out of it with a bung card.
