I bought HP G2 (DisplayPort, VGA, 230W, Thunderbolt, USB Type C, USB A) so that I have enough power., Now there is still a fixed power plug attached to the Thunderbolt connector. Can I attach a Thunderbolt cable without a power plug to this dock? Will it still work then?

Yes, unscrew the cover at the bottom and change the cable, but beware of the Thunderbolt and not the USB-C cable. I also did it that way. Possibly loss of warranty?
