I had similar problems when I tried to pair with a second phone. In normal operation, however, I have no problems.

I only connect the UE Boom 3 to iPad or iPhone and have never had a problem with playback. I have installed a separate system with an Onkyo amplifier and Infinity speakers on my laptop. Works great.
My guess would be that the dropouts are coming from the laptop and not from UE Boom. You might want to test your smartphone to see if there are any dropouts there as well.
