I have an almost vintage convertible (built in 1990). Accordingly, it only has a cassette radio but with a very good amplifier and speakers. I would like to be able to stream music from my iPhone 8plus, charge the iPhone and talk to the phone freely. Is the device capable of doing this?

I think I can answer the question. The cassette player has nothing to do with this transmitter. The only thing you need is 1. a car radio to set the desired frequency (the same as on the transmitter) and 2. power for the transmitter, i.e.: a 12V cigarette lighter. 
PS: As an addition: The AUX cable will be useless here, unless you use a Lightning to 3.5mm audio jack adapter. But this FM transmitter has Bluetooth.
