if the Ipod Nano 7 fits, is the I-phone 6 and 7 with the "narrow connector" also compatible?

No! The iPod is "ancient" and can be charged with the 30-pin connector, the "new" iPhone 7 already has the Lightning connector. The two plugs could not be more different. There are intermediate plugs, but you will find other speakers for the iPhone.
