If we have a keyboard without accents, how can we incorporate them into our writing? Is touch input the only solution, or is there a simpler method?

No, the ten-finger system is not necessary.
Simplest solutions:
- Change the keyboard (e.g. to German/French Switzerland)
- Use Alt codes (e.g. Alt + 0233 for é)
- Use text replacement or on-screen keyboard
