I have had Canon printers for decades ... 
Let's not forget that they actually make printers for others as well, and it just gets rebranded ... 
As for this specific model, the only reason `I ordered it, is because I have the identical one in Thailand, for about 6 months, and it has been working perfectly fine.
Sorry you've had such bad experience with Canon ...
