Yes, the device also works without a smartphone etc.. However, Spotify needs your smartphone to search etc.. On the radio, you can then select play/pause, forward and back within the playlist. You can also save your favourite playlist on the radio. You can then start it from the radio.

As soon as the device has an internet connection via WLAN or LAN, all functions can be used.
However, I'm not sure about Spotify, because you might need the mobile to select playlists etc.
