My camera lights up but shows nothing. What am I doing wrong? The recommended camera reset always says to remove the battery for 30 seconds. Where is the battery of the built-in camera?

It may just be the camera's privacy cover that is to blame. This is because there is a small sliding cover for the camera. A small slider is attached to the top of the screen above the camera. If it is pushed to the left, the camera remains black.
A picture of where this is located can be found in the PC manual.
This can be found in the Start menu under Start --> H --> HP documentation. Select the language here and the user manual will appear. Under "Components of the computer" you will find a picture of where the camera cover is (no. (5)).
The user manual is stored locally on the PC, you do not need an Internet connection.
There is no separate battery for the camera. The tip to remove it for a reset does not apply to a built-in PC camera.

It has a very small mechanical cover that you can slide over it. Is that your problem? You can barely see the slider...
