Stupid question what is the difference between a microSD and a micro SDXC? I thought one was faster than the other but according to the description they both read and write at exactly the same speed.

The micro first describes the size.
So what you want to know is what the difference is between SD or SDHC and SDXC. That is relatively simple, it has to do with the maximum memory size.
SDHC cards can be up to 32GB.
SDXC can be up to 2TB.
