To be more specific: If I want to connect my monitor with DP connection to the PC via HDMI cable, does that work?

PC with HDMI, monitor with DisplayPort + this adapter = Yes, that works.

A unit with HDMI connection (output) can be connected to a monitor with DP connection (input). A DP-DP cable and a free USB port on the device are also required. It worked for me on a PC and notebook. I cannot say whether it works with all devices (Playstation/X-Box). It probably depends on the power supply via the USB port. Trying is the order of the day...
