We are finding that the external display on the monitor does not come back on after ‘sleep mode’. We have to unplug the cables or reboot completely for the monitor to come back on. Tapping the keyboard or rolling the mouse has no effect on the monitor but does illuminate the Mac. We are using an HDMI cable to connect to our Mac pro. Does anyone have suggestions how to get the monitor to come back on?

How is are you putting the monitor to sleep?
I use a USB-C cable with a MacBook Pro and if I put the Mac to sleep then the monitor behaves as expected (takes a few seconds to go to sleep and then wakes up with the Mac)
But if I press the button on the monitor itself, it turns off (not sleep).

So my suggestion, use the USB-C cable instead of HDMI, it will also charge your Mac. And put the Mac to sleep instead of the monitor.
