Why are DVD+R blanks cheaper than DVD-R blanks, what advantage do the latter have (if any)...?

As far as I can remember, it was one of those copy protection issues. -R has built-in copy protection +R does not.

Normally it doesn't matter for today's recorders whether you use +R or -R.
