would like to use the lens with the sony alpha 6500 does this make sense? need camera and lens for christmas, is whs . not possible?
whether it makes sense or not is up to you to decide, on the A6500 you will have 36-157.5mm focal length, especially indoors you are then quite limited as you no longer have the wide angle, for landscape photography you have to decide for yourself whether you like ultra wide angle, wide angle or normal focal lengths up to zoom best.
for me personally, a 24-105mm on an aps-c camera is a bad choice, i already put my FF lenses on the A6300 and apart from the macro and long zoom lenses, i almost exclusively use APXSC lenses for the crop cameras.
the equivalent for APS-c would be the 16-70 f4 (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/sony-e-16-70mm-f4-za-oss-zeiss-vario-tessar-t-e-mount-objektiv-725698) or alternatively the 18-105 f4 (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/sony-e-18-105mm-f40-g-oss-e-mount-objektiv-2586322) with a little less wide angle but a little more zoom.
keep in mind that the 24-105 is quite a lump on the A6500, and is actually intended for full-frame. since the new lenses are mostly designed for high-resolution sensors, you will have little loss in image quality; older lenses for FF often show poorer resolution performance on crop cameras than the APS-C versions of the corresponding focal lengths.
in the end it's a question of price (for that price you can get the 10-18mm and the 16-70, or a combo zoom and fixed focal length); and you'll most likely end up spending money on something wide-angle.
for me, a zoom lens should start in the wide angle (24-28mm) range and not just at 36mm... for me.
have fun in the decision making process ;-)
