Happy grows the little Mehrnousch in the beautiful city of Isfahan, Iran, until everything changes after the fall of the Shah and the new ruler, Ayatollah Khomeini, establishes a regime of tyranny. When Mehrnousch's 14-year-old brother Mehrdad is to be sent to war, the family flees through Istanbul and East Berlin to West Germany. An odyssey through many refugee homes begins, a rollercoaster of hope and despair, until Mehrnousch's family finally finds a new home. With black-and-white vignettes by the author's brother.
