Fentje Jacobsen does not fit the classic image of a lawyer. She runs her practice from her grandparents' farm in North Frisia. There, her grandmother's advancing dementia, a rebellious 14-year-old niece, and her reckless brother are driving her to the brink. When Fentje is tasked with representing a young man suspected of murdering his girlfriend, she stumbles upon an old, very similar case. Almost simultaneously, two students disappear from a nearby boarding school. During her investigation, she meets the worldly and ambitious journalist Niklas John. Despite their differing goals, they begin to work together on the case.
