Ten-year-old Baku lives with his family in dire poverty in a village in northern India. Hunger is no stranger to the bright boy; he often has to fall asleep with a growling stomach. Things take a turn for the worse when his father not only loses their meager money gambling but also sells Baku as a worker to a child trafficker. Hundreds of kilometers away, Baku is now forced to toil in a textile factory. Only with the help of extraordinary friends does Baku manage to hold on to hope—the hope of one day returning home and being a child again.
