His best friend Pelle is a hand puppet, with whom he engages in long conversations and who is much wittier than he is. He also has a peculiar hobby: Jakop enjoys attending the funerals of strangers. He pretends to be a friend of the deceased, feeling comfortable among the families of the dead. It’s unfortunate when someone sees through his ruse... like Agnes. Jakop falls in love with her and hopes that she will accept him despite his quirks and the outspoken Pelle.
