For the student Lazy, Vita is just the old lady upstairs, as Lazy has eyes only for his girlfriend Elsie. But just as suddenly as love arrives, illness follows. It drives Elsie away and threatens the future. In the stairwell, Vita picks up the skinny, exhausted Lazy, takes him in, and nurses him back to health with sausage sandwiches.
