Otfried Preussler, born in 1923, hails from Reichenberg in Bohemia and now lives in Upper Bavaria. His children's books, especially "The Robber Hotzenplotz," "The Little Water Man," and "The Little Witch," are world-renowned. For the masterful narrative "Krabat," the author received the German Youth Literature Prize and several international accolades. For his entire literary work, he was awarded the Grand Prize of the German Academy for Children’s and Youth Literature in Volkach. In 1990, Otfried Preussler received the Eichendorff Literature Prize; in the same year, he was awarded the Pro Meritis Medal of Merit. In recognition of his literary achievements, Otfried Preussler was appointed Professor by the Federal President of the Republic of Austria in June 1991. Many of his titles have been on the shortlist for the German Youth Literature Prize.
