Riding in walk seems easy. Unlike trot and canter, which involve more speed and momentum, the rider can sit calmly – without fear of losing balance and control. However, this lack of momentum makes it a challenging gait in higher dressage movements in terms of rhythm and energy management. All movements should first be practiced in walk so that the rider and horse can coordinate in concentrated slowness.
