Yes, it works, I've done it too. However, it doesn't become as firm as normal knot filler and sanding is a challenge.

I would not use it for this purpose. The adhesive is also somewhat soft after curing. In other words, you can press it in with your fingernail or something similar. Use epoxy. This holds and fills it evenly.
