Is it possible to operate this book scanner independently of the PC/laptop (e.g. via USB stick)?

The scanner needs 1) a power supply (supplied) and 2) a laptop with a screen so that the scan variables can be entered on the supplied "Book Pavilion" programme (on the screen!), otherwise you really have problems if the settings do not suit your needs! I therefore do not believe that operation with a USB stick is feasible!
