Product details
Piana is a folding chair and the first chair ever, in whose development the Italian manufacturer Alessi was involved in its over 90-year history. Accordingly, this Alessichair is special. Piana is the result of the collaboration of the two Italian companies Alessi and Lamm with designer and architect David Chipperfield.
While Alessi and David Chipperfield were responsible for the design, Lamm provided the technical know-how for the production of high-quality seating furniture. With Piana, designer David Chipperfield took on the challenge of designing a product of which there are already countless versions. The result is a folding chair that is oriented towards practical requirements.
Visually, Piana is simple and reduced to the essentials. The iconic folding chair is immediately recognisable as such, has no frills and is extremely robust. The clear look, which is geared towards practical use, makes Piana versatile. The aim of David Chipperfield, Alessi and Lamm was to design a chair that can be used in public spaces, at events and receptions as well as in the private household, at the dining table, on the balcony or in the garden. Accordingly, the quality of the materials used is high and clever are the practical tricks of the design. Piana has a synchronised system for opening and closing the seat. This system has been realised with a single pivot point and without any visible fastening elements. Therefore Piana can be folded compactly and in this form is hardly wider than the chair's own leg.
For the production of Piana, Lamm uses polypropylene with glass fibre reinforcement. The surface is matt and non-slip, the entire chair is 100% recyclable. Due to the materials, the folding chair is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Lamm and Alessi offer their Piana folding chair in different colours. A special transport trolley, connecting hooks as well as wall mounting hooks for Piana are also available.
