The simple, powerful lines of these handcrafted vessels are based on the essential basic forms of African craftsmanship. This applies to their thick-walled bodies as well as to the horizontal grooves emphasised by the play of shadows. They get their antique-looking surface from an oil-based glaze, which is finished with varnish after firing. Whether used as a plant pot or as a decorative solitaire, Sansibar makes an effective ethnocultural statement. The high-fired pot is not watertight due to the typical sweating of the material at the bottom. It is advisable to use an insert or a saucer for more sensitive floors or surfaces to avoid moisture marks. Sansibar is not frost-proof.
